Animal Control within the City of Brooks

The City of Brooks entered into a contract with BAPS regarding animal control. BAPS is responsible for the enforcement of the City's Dog and Cat Bylaws, collecting and retaining impound fees, fines, license fees, and issuance of any violation tags or other notices as required. BAPS in turn has an Animal Control Officer(ACO), to oversee these responsibilities.

Strays will be picked up by the ACO. If a person within City limits picks up a stray, they are asked to immediately call the ACO, at which time arrangements will be made between the two parties for pickup of the animal, at no charge to the individual. Animals are held for 96 hours, if unclaimed after this time, they are then surrendered to BAPS for adoption.

To have traps set to catch stray cats on your property, we require written notice. Please email or mail a request for the trap to our ACO. Include your name, phone number, address and a description of the animal. Please be patient, we have only one officer to service the entire city of Brooks.

In the County of Newell

If a person in the County of Newell or a surrounding Town or Hamlet wishes to report a stray dog, they are asked to contact Brooks Protective Services and they will dispatch animal control. If you wish to report a stray cat please contact The County of Newell. BAPS unfortunately cannot take the strays without a surrender fee, unless by consent from the office in authority for that area.

Skunk Control

People wishing to have a trap set for skunks, are required to call the Special Constables at the City of Brooks Office 1-403-362-3333.
